Constructed both chronologically and thematically, The Fullerton Way uses each of the five CSUF presidential eras to trace the physical and academic development of CSUF and the changing nature of student life on campus. As the title conveys, CSU Fullerton’s often-original perspectives and methods are emphasized. In addition to campus history, The Fullerton Way includes the university’s relationship with and impact on the history of North Orange County. To reflect this, throughout the text, efforts and projects that have bridged “gown” to “town” are highlighted.
Beginning with the history of the region and the master plan design, the book then moves on to illuminate the collaborative efforts of the pioneer administration and faculty that set precedence for later decision-making practices. It chronicles major developments under each CSUF presidential administration, the goals each set, and the challenges each faced to achieve them.
The Fullerton Way is retrospective and celebratory, but Dr. de Graaf and his team have also paid appropriate attention to the social and political conditions of each era. The book takes into account issues concerning student unrest in the late 1960s –early 1970s and state financial struggles through the 70s and 80s
