Q: What is the Direct Access Program?

A: The Direct Access program allows students immediate access to their course materials, in digital format, by the first day of classes. All students, in courses where Direct Access is offered, will have free digital access to the specified course material, up until the add/drop period ends. In order to maintain digital access, students will need to pay for the material through Titan Shops.  The Direct Access program is a partnership between the CSUF-Information Technology division, Titan Shops and select publishers.

Q: How do I access my Direct Access digital material?

A: If you’re enrolled in a Direct Access course, this material can be accessed through your CSUF TITANium account or campus portal, which will be provided for free up until the add/drop period ends.  To maintain Direct Access, students will need to submit their payment to Titan Shops (online or in store), which will secure access for the remainder of the semester.

Q: What are the benefits of the program?

A: The benefits include immediate access to course materials at the start of classes, ensuring that you are better prepared for a successful semester. You will have access to your course material on any Wi-Fi enabled device, and can take notes and highlight the material digitally.  Digital content also results in lower course material costs when compared to typical new or used book prices, and it is environmentally friendly.

Q: What is the price for this program and how will I pay?

A: Direct Access prices will vary by title and are usually discounted up to 80% off the new print purchase price.  You can pay through the Titan Shops website by going through your “My Textbooks” link in the campus portal, clicking the buy link in the portal (select classes) or using the link emailed to you by Titan Shops and/or your professor, which introduced you to the program (select classes).  Students with special accounts available at Titan Shops can make their payment at the Customer Service counter, located on the first level of the store.

Q: What if I purchased or rented a print copy and would like to switch to a Direct Access version?

A: If you already purchased or rented a print version at Titan Shops and you would prefer to have the digital content, simply bring your book and receipt to the Book Information counter on the 2nd floor at Titan Shops by the add/drop deadline and let the staff know you would like to switch.  The value of your initial purchase will be applied to the new Direct Access purchase.

Q: What if I would like to stay in the Direct Access program, but need a little more time to pay?

A: You can utilize the Titan Payment Plan available through Titan Shops.  This will allow you to charge the payment for the Direct Access program to your instore account by the deadline, and then you will have 2 months from the start of the semester to pay off your account balance.  This is available for all course material purchases.  See a store associate for more details.

Q: Why was there no access code sent to me?

With the Titan Direct Access program, no codes are necessary. The Direct Access ebook is tied to your CWID and email.

Q: Why was my access turned off?

Free access is provided during the first two weeks of the semester.  In order to retain the access, your need to pay for continued access. Payment can be made in person at Titan Shops (go to the Book Information Desk on the 2nd level of the store) or on-line at (look up your course and select the title with the Titan Direct Access Logo.) Please allow up to one (1) business day after purchase for the title to be reactivated.

Q: How long does it last?

Access varies by publisher, based on the digital rights they have provided. Titles from Pearson, Cengage, McGraw Hill and Human Kinetics have perpetual access and titles from Macmillan and Jones & Bartlett are 180 day access.

Q: Am I eligible for a refund?

Refunds for Digital Access ebooks follow the same timeline as regular textbook refunds. The deadline to request a refund for Fall 2017 is August 26, 2017. If you drop a course, you have until September 5, 2017 with proof of drop. All refunds require an original store receipt.

Q: Why isn’t my class in the program?

A: This is a new program currently with a limited number of titles available. If successful, the program will be expanded with additional titles in future semesters.
